Southern Dermatology provides comprehensive dermatologic care and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all skin conditions.

SKIN EXAMS

Regular skin exams are recommended for patients at risk for skin cancer, this includes patients with a history of skin cancer, family history of melanoma, tanning bed use, high number of moles or history of abnormal moles. Studies show that skin exams by a board-certified dermatologist detect skin cancer at an earlier stage.

ACNE AND ROSACEA

These are common skin conditions that can appear in various forms at any stage in life. At Southern Dermatology Medical, our providers will create an individualized treatment plan for you that may combine topical and/or oral medications.

RASHES

Our providers evaluate and treat a wide variety of rashes including eczema, psoriasis, allergic reactions and other inflammatory skin conditions.

NAIL DISEASE

Dr. Brown trained with leaders in the field of nail disease and have a particular interest in nail conditions. She has significant experience in nail surgery for both the diagnosis and treatment of nail disorders.

HAIR LOSS

The pattern of hair loss, history of presentation and associated symptoms can help determine the cause of hair loss and how best to treat it. Our providers will perform a thorough exam and consider your medical history in order to help identify the cause of hair loss. In some cases, a scalp biopsy may be necessary. Treatment for hair loss can be challenging but we offer a range of topical, oral and injected medications, including platelet rich plasma.

ACTINIC KERATOSES

These are precancerous growths caused by years of sun damage. They often appear as a persistent scaly or rough patch on a sun exposed area (ie: face, hands) that can be sore or easily irritated. Actinic keratoses can be treated with liquid nitrogen, topical prescription medication or in-office treatments including chemical peels and photodynamic therapy (PDT).

ALLERGIC CONTACT DERMATITIS (PATCH TESTING)

Allergic contact dermatitis is a form of ezcema that occurs when the skin and immune system become sensitized to a foreign substance such as fragrances, preservatives, or metals in our common everyday products. It is diagnosed with physical exam and comprehensive patch testing performed in the office. Allergic contact dermatitis may be treated with allergen avoidance as well as topical or internal medications.

WARTS

An often frustrating condition, warts that do not respond to over the counter treatments should be evaluated by a dermatologist. Southern Dermatology Medical has a variety of treatment options for warts.

SKIN INFECTIONS

Skin infections can range from mild to life-threatening.  Any time you are experiencing a skin infection, which can present as redness, swelling and pain, it is imperative you seek care from a skilled medical team.

AUTOIMMUNE SKIN CONDITIONS

There are many autoimmune conditions which can affect the skin ranging from lupus to dermatomyositis.  Often, these present with rashes, but internal organs can be affected.  If you are experiencing an atypical rash, make sure you see a Dermatologist for the proper diagnosis.

ECZEMA

Eczema can be very frustrating to treat.  Often patient are left using various lotions and creams over-the-counter that do not work.  Our staff will help find the right prescription to repair your eczema and help you heal!  Treatments range from topicals to pills and injectables.

PSORIASIS

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that leaves red plaques on the skin with a white or silver scale.  It can affect numerous locations on the body, and even the scalp.  Mild cases are treated with topical prescriptions, but moderate to severe cases often require oral or injectable medications.

RECURRENT CYSTS AND BOILS

Current cysts and boils can be sign of infection, or often, related to a chronic inflammatory condition of the skin called Hidradenitis Suppuritiva.  These conditions can be managed with medications and injections to prevent scarring and pain.

COLD SORES

Cold sores can be painful and affect your self-confidence.  Our team of doctors will help you obtain prescription therapy to stop cold cores in their tracks at the first onset of symptoms.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES

Sexually transmitted diseases can cause numerous skin findings ranging from sores to bumps.  Our doctors will ensure they obtain appropriate testing to make sure your diagnosis is correct and them treat you discretely and quickly to help you feel better.

BENIGN SKIN GROWTHS

There are many benign skin growths that can be bothersome.  Southern Dermatology staff will help you know what your options are for treatment and removal.

MOLE REMOVAL

Have a mole that you want removed for cosmetic purposes?  Look no further.  Our team will remove your mole painlessly and quickly with minimal scarring.

HIVES (URTICARIA)

Chronic hives can sometimes be caused by allergens or internal disease.  Dr. Brown and her team will perform a comprehensive workup to exclude internal causes of hives.  We also will help guide your medical therapy to clear your hives once and for all.

DANDRUFF (SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS)

If you have dandruff that cannot be controlled with over-the-counter shampoos, then you need prescription therapy.  There are many shampoos and scalp solutions that easily clear dandruff and flaking of the scalp.

VITILIGO

Vitiligo is an autoimmune bleaching of the skin.  It can cause white or depigmented patches of the skin.  It can occur anywhere on the body or face.  Treatment can be somewhat difficult, but there are topical and oral therapy that can assist.

HYPERPIGMENTATION OF SKIN

Hyperpigmentation of the skin can be due to melasma or post-inflammatory changes.  Regardless of the cause, our team can help develop a customized treatment plan for your pigmentation concerns.  Options include topical therapy to procedures such as chemical peels or lasers.

BIRTHMARKS

Dr. Brown and her team will evaluate your birthmark and make a more specific diagnosis.  Some birthmarks in children can be treated with topical or oral medications (vascular birthmarks); while others may require surgery. 

KELOID SCARS

Keloid or thickened scars can be itchy and painful, and also cause a cosmetic concern.  Some keloid scars are small enough to be injected with a steroid medication to help it flatten out over time.  Larger keloids may require a surgical removal.

TOENAIL FUNGUS

Toenail fungus is notoriously difficult to treat.  Many causes require oral medication with a medication that requires lab monitoring.  Other treatments include topical therapy or laser therapy.
